DMR – Digital Mobile Radio

The KC9LMF Repeater now has DMR capability and is a gateway to the world. Check this page for information and resources.

What is DMR?

Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) is a digital radio standard designed for voice and data transmission in non-public radio networks. It was created by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to offer clear audio, better coverage, and advanced features compared to older analog systems.235  DMR allows for enhanced voice quality, increased capacity, and advanced features, making it a versatile tool in modern communication networks.35  It is designed to be low-cost and easy to use, with the primary goal of specifying a digital system with low complexity and interoperability across brands.

The KC9LMF repeater is both analog and digital, and it works just the same as it has been using a “standard” analog radio or Echolink. However, now with the DMR capability, it is also digital and connects to the DMR networks. There are many YouTube and other web tutorials for DRM; explanation, radio programming, use and functionality. You must have a DMR capable radio in order to use that capability. There are many DMR radios that have both analog and digital DMR capability and start in price from less than $100.

Programming of a DMR radio is more difficult but the Big Bend Amateur Radio Club is ready to assist. If you want help in programming any radio, Analog or Digital, contact us at BBARC@kd9lmf.org.

Here is a link to a great document to get you started in programming an Anytone 878 handheld radio (in my opinion a great Dual Band Analog/Digital DMR HT), most DMR radio programming is similar and there is a wealth of info/instructions on the WEB:
